Please Hold Elected Officials Accountable !

At Tarrant County Commissioner's Court

Tuesday, August 4, 2026, 10:00 AM
Commissioners Courtroom
Tarrant County Administration Building
100 East Weatherford Street, 5th Floor

Fort Worth, Texas 76196

On Tuesday, August 4, the Tarrant County Commissioners Court will consider a proposals that will significantly reduce the number of early voting and election-day polling locations for the upcoming 2026 midterm election. If these proposals pass, this will be the second time in less than a year that the Court has reduced the number of polling places before an election, and the Court is proposing these reductions less than 90 days before early voting begins.

42 Early Sites proposed, compared to 50 for the 2022 mid-term election.
176 Election Day sites proposed, compared to 304 in 2022.
In prior General elections we had 58 Early Voting Locations.
That's a 42% reduction for E-Day polling locations.

The League of Women Voters of Tarrant County supports an adequate number of early voting and election day voting sites based on the voting population. With Tarrant County’s population growth, the number of poll locations should increase commensurate with the population increase.

This drastic reduction in the number of poll locations is antithetical to democratic governance.

4. Focus on the impact to voters if poll locations are reduced.
      a. Voters will have to drive further to find a poll location. There will be a higher cost to vote.
      b. Approximately 40,000 families do not own a car, eliminating poll locations will prevents these voters from voting.
      c. The county is eliminating poll locations for many college campuses, reducing the opportunity for busy students who juggle work, family and class schedules to vote.
      d. Many eligible voters will face increased barriers to casting their ballots, such as longer travel distances, long waiting lines, and overcrowded facilities.
      e. The March Primary had long wait times and more overall voting locations than are proposed for November. For the  general election typically 3-4 times more voters participate than vote in the combined primary elections.
      f. Additionally, this puts a tremendous burden on poll workers, who will have much more stress.
